A turn-of-the-century detailed 16-foot lobby ceiling illuminated with original brass rosettes, a polished and flame cut floor of yellow Bulgarian limestone and Paul Kotlarevsky's "Seated Officer," which stares approvingly from behind the desk, set the tone of dignity and elegance that welcomes visitors to the hotel. A magnificent copper dome in the hotel salon further develops this theme, while Elie Nadelman's 22 original dry point drawings repose dramatically in the library, interspersed among the novels of Dickens, Austen, Doctorow and Hemingway. Sleigh beds with back lit iron and wire mesh headboards, white and beige cotton Belgian linens, ebonized floors, custom etched glass French doors and ingeniously crafted metal and fabric armoires ensure that every guestroom is the perfect relaxing retreat. In the hallways, the original terrazzo floors shine again flowing into the oval staircases with their refurbished hand-turned mahogany railings and intricate iron balustrades.
